An ODM MP has ignited fresh debate on secession, a move that could see some parts of the country granted autonomy.

Opondo Kaluma, the Homabay Town MP and a lawyer to opposition leader Raila Odinga now wants IEBC to allow the country go for a referendum on separation of Kenya into two states.

To end alleged segregation and discrimination, Kaluma says, would help end uncertainty allegedly created by Jubilee administration.

“In line with articles 255 (1,2) all together with article 5 of the constitution, we propose that IEBC allows referendum to create two countries; People’s Republic of Kenya and Central Republic of Kenya,” reads the latter.

It further reads:” this will help remedy the in exclusion, tribalism and corruption we are subjected to by Jubilee administration.”

Economist David Ndii first ignited the debate, with a section of the government officials calling for his apprehension and subsequent prosecution on sedition.

Similar debate is experienced in Spain, where Catalonia region has voted in separation from Madrid government and closer home; separatists are calling for creation of a new nation, Ambazonia.
