Senior Counsel Okong’o Mogeni will on Monday morning appear for seven youths believed to have buried President Uhuru Kenyatta’s effigy in Keroka town on Thursday.
Although their names are yet to be made public, they were arrested and charged with treason, an offense that could lead to death penalty if convicted.
And the Nyamira Senator, who was part of Supreme Court lawyers for Raila Odinga maintains that they should be released unconditionally.
“I am saddened to learn that authorities mean to detain a number of youths from my county against the provisions of the constitution.
“I am told that they were charged with treason but as NASA, we shall do all we can to secure their freedom on Monday,” the former LSK chair said.
In defense of embattled Chief Justice David Maraga, the pro-NASA youths thronged into the streets to demand respect for Kenya’s second Chief Justice under the new constitution.
Local Civil Rights groups are also pushing for their release albeit fair gearing from the authorities.
