All eyes are on opposition leader Raila Odinga as the 2022 general elections near.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) chief's recent activities have further enhanced this, with Kenyans eagerly waiting to see his next step upon the start of the 2022 campaigns.
With a section of political leaders and commentators claiming that he could be preparing himself for another shot at the presidency, the former Premier's recent moves point at the direct opposite of that.
Having spent most of his political life in the opposition, the veteran politician is seemingly looking for avenues to deliver his supporters to the next government's side before bowing out of the political arena.
His move to reconcile with President Uhuru Kenyatta slightly proves this, with the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) party boss, seemingly, warming up to Kenyatta who has, however, vowed to pass the mantle to his deputy William Ruto upon his retirement in 2022.
Therefore, Odinga is aware that the only avenue to achieving his mission is through Kenyatta, as opposed to Ruto, who is already suspicious of his moves following their earlier fallout.
With the 4 party NASA alliance currently being on its knees, the leader has remained non-commital on saving it, ignoring lamentations and threats from his co-leaders, as he has nothing to lose.
Therefore, he is likely to back William Ruto in his forthcoming bid, in a bid to house himself, his supporters and allies within the government.
