Kenya is likely to struggle for decades to find a leader who may match the political wit of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
After four decades in politics and following a humiliating defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta, Odinga is likely to hung boots from the murky world of politics.
Although his record on struggle for pluralism remains intact, the former Prime Minister has not groomed anyone to take over from him and this could lead to succession battles in his backyard.
“If he decides to live, we are likely to see power vacuum. However, I tip Gladys Wanga as the only person to replace him given the goodwill of Luo Nyanza people,” reckons Gideon Mamboleo.
He adds: “As much as there could be an outsider to inherit his voting block, he needs someone from his backyard and Wanga has proven to be steady.”
Outside Nyanza, Mombasa governor Hassan Joho could be the next kid on the block to spearhead ODM activities across the country following his recent political victories against establishment.
Also tipped to inherit Odinga’s support base include James Orengo, Musalia Mudavadi and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
