The Orange Democratic Movement has been accused of planning the heckling of leaders opposed to its ideologies during the Friday’s funeral of Nyacheki MCA Peter Ongeri who died recently.
A host of leaders led by former CIC chair Charles Nyachae, Prof Sam Ongeri, and Kisii Senator Chris Obure were forced to cut short their speeches due to hostility from a section of mourners.
The high tension funeral was also attended by ODM Chairman John Mbadi and Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o who addressed the crowd without interruption.
On Sunday, Mr Nyachae demanded that ODM leadership apologises for demeaning leaders allied to other factions labeling the incident ‘primitive and uncalled for’.
“We should learn to coexist peacefully without necessary intimidating political rivals. ODM cannot hire goons to disrupt politicians who are not allied to its ideologies whenever they feel threatened,” he said.
“The Nyacheki incident was primitive and uncalled for. The leadership should come out and apologise for demeaning innocent leaders who had gone to mourn a friend. We must respect each other,” he said.
However, West Mugirango MP James Gesami has dismissed the claims saying the crowd was hostile due to their opposed Omogusii unity calls.
“ODM cannot sit down and organise barbaric acts like booing leaders. The crowd was showing its dissatisfaction with the so-called Omogusii unity the three leaders are advocating for. Let us not blame ODM all times,” he said.
