National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has issued temporary orders barring the expulsion of rebel ODM MPs from House committees.
On Wednesday, Muturi said the directive will remain enforced until the House addresses issues surrounding the best process of removing an MP from a committee.
According to the Star, the ODM wants errant MPs removed from House committees as punishment.
The Speaker said the issue needs conscious consideration by all.
"The issue of enforcing party discipline within the House through discharge of members from committees is a serious issue that requires conscious consideration by all," said Muturi as quoted by the Star.
"I will not admit any further requests for the discharge of any member from a committee unless the whip of the party proposing the action demonstrates that the parliamentary party has given the affected member notice of his or her intended discharge." he added.
The parties are supposed to give the errant MPs a chance to be heard by a panel that was yet to be formed, before they are dewhipped.
"In this regard, it is not for the Speaker to dictate who will neither constitute the panel nor its procedure, but suffice to say that some form of a hearing must have taken place," he noted.
