The race to succeed Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko has gained pace with ODM's candidate Asha Hussein Mohamed being the front runner for the seat.
The race has also attracted Jubilee's Amina Abdalla and ZamZam Mohamed who is vying on a Wiper Party ticket.According to the recent opinion poll, Asha is way ahead of the chasing pack with 24.3 % support, followed by Jubilee's Amina Abdalla with 8.5 % while ZamZam has 2.8%.Asha, who is a nominated MCA, is one of the staunch supporters of Raila Odinga who have helped the ODM party grow at the grassroots level.Politically, she is very experienced having worked for former Mvita MP Najib Balala's campaign before switching to join Hassan Joho who was the then Kisauni MP.She has also worked with former Mombasa Mayor Ahmed Muhdhar.With only 18 days remaining to the August 8 polls, Ashuu, as she is popularly called by her supporters, has amplified her campaigns as she is determined to clinch the seat which she lost in 2013 after losing the ODM nominations to outgoing Women Rep Mishi Mboko.
