Tana River incumbent governor Hussein Dado’s efforts to retain his seat in the just concluded general election proved futile after ODM’s Dhadho Godhana emerged victorious
Godhana floored the incumbent with a margin of 1,492 votes.According to Tana River returning officer, Mohamed Gonjobe, there was 74.06% voter turnout in the county during the August 8 polls.Speaking shortly after receiving his IEBC certificate, Godhana pledged to unite all the communities living in the area during his first term in office. The Governor-elect also promised to utilize the resources in the county to improve the welfare of residents.“I will form an all-inclusive government and tap into local human resource potential,” he said, as quoted by The Star.Dado joins Taita Taveta incumbent governor John Mruttu in the list of Coast governors who served for only one term. Mruttu was defeated during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations and opted to defend his seat as an Independent candidate. He, however, failed to retain his seat after being trounced by Wiper’s Granton Samboja in the just concluded polls.
