The August 8 elections dented the political careers of veteran politicians in the country, with Kwale ODM chairman Hassan Mwanyoha being among the losers.

The outgoing Matuga MP became an integral member of the Orange party in the county following the death of former Senator Boy Juma Boy.However, his re-election bid suffered a major blow when he was swept aside by Kassim Tandaza of ANC, a political greenhorn.According to the IEBC final tally, Tandaza won the seat after polling 16,985 votes against Mwanyoha's 12,627 votes.Fomer Kinango MP Gonzi Rai was also swept aside by the new wave that is seemingly sweeping across the coastal county that has long been receptive to opposition politics. The Kinango seat was won by Benjamin Tayari of ODM.
