Elgeyo Marakwet ODM chairman has said the ongoing verbal duel within the Cord coalition over who will be the presidential flag bearer come 2017 is a major betrayal of Kenyan voters and must be condemned.
In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, Micah Kigen said majority of Kenyans are fed up with the current Jubilee regime which has been accused of rampant corruption in the public sector, negative ethnicity, non-accountability and dictatorship.
“For some time now Kenyans had banked their hopes on the unity of Cord to face Jubilee as a united force of the oppressed citizenry to kick them out of power in the 2017 general elections. It hurts very painfully that the people’s hope for a solution is fast degenerating into a problem. Any catalysts of integration in the opposition to break the bond between Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula are public enemies,” read the statement in part.
He said the Cord principals have a duty to agree on a democratic formula for settling on the flag bearer, his running mate and a befitting role for the third principal without causing friction within the support base.
“So far the people are united behind them and are looking up to them to offer leadership and the way forward. Their resorting to infighting and daring each other is betrayal of the innocent majority who want Jubilee out of power urgently,” said Kigen.
The ODM chair said the push for a flag bearer should not be allowed to divide opposition supporters, and thus should be canvassed discreetly in camera by the three principals without creating anxiety among followers.
