The National Super Alliance (NASA) has reiterated that the IEBC must involve its leadership in preparations for the fresh presidential election ordered by the Supreme Court last week, ODM chairman John Mbadi has said.

Speaking during NTV's Sidebar Show on Wednesday night, Mbadi said the Elections Act requires the electoral commission to engage stakeholders in the determination of some aspects of the poll.

"We are insisting that IEBC must consult us because we want to be assured that the commission is ready for the fresh election. We don't want just any other election. We want a transparent, credible, free and fair election. We are not ready for another sham poll," Mbadi said.

The opposition alliance led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Tuesday threatened to boycott the poll which the electoral body has announced will be held on October 17.

Raila said that as one of the candidates expected to participate in the exercise, IEBC must consult him to iron out some issues that were raised by the Supreme Court.

NASA co-principal Moses Wetang'ula has accused the government of influencing the fixing of the election date.

"Matiang'i (Education CS) 'announces' the date in the morning and in the evening Chebukati confirms. That tells you who is pressing the buttons behind the curtains," said Wetang'ula on Tuesday at a press conference.
