Opposition party ODM has replaced Migori ODM chair Philip Makabong'o with Suna East chair Phesto Ogwada for openly campaigning for an independent candidate.
According to County organising secretary Joseph Nyambori, the party made the decision after it became apparent that Makabong'o will not be campaigning for Migori ODM governorship candidate Okoth Obado, who is also the incumbent governor.
Nyambori noted that this was against the party's rules and regulations.
"We will not allow Makabong'o to be campaigning for non-party aspirants that show lack of respect to the party members and aspirants at this election period," he said on Friday.
He further cautioned other party officials against campaigning for non-party members ahead of the August polls.
“This will not only be to Makabong’o but to other officials who will be interfering with party regulations. We must remain steadfast to make ODM more vibrant,” he said.
Makabong'o had indicated that he will be supporting former Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko for Migori governorship.
Ayacko lost the ODM Party ticket to Obado during the party primaries.
