Wilfred Machage believes that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ‘died’ when it agreed to join National Super Alliance, a coalition that was proposed by Musalia Mudavadi.
Machage, who serves as Migori senator on ODM ticket, was speaking on Friday when he defected to Democratic Party.
He is set to contest Kuria West parliamentary seat which is currently held by Mathews Robi of defunct United Republican Party.
“I don’t think that we have a party by ODM. It died when it joined NASA, a coalition that sprung from nowhere. The party makes irrational decisions which have led to its natural death,” he said at a press conference on Friday.
Machage further said: “I have joined a party rich of history than that ODM and I am sure that I will be in parliament in August.”
The DP party was used by retired president Mwai Kibaki unsuccessful presidential in 1992 and 1997 elections.
Machage joined ODM in 2012 after an advice by Raila Odinga as part of negotiated democracy in cosmopolitan Migori County, which is predominantly Luo.
