The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has distanced itself from an incident where one of its officials is accused of attacking journalists in Nakuru.
In a statement to newsrooms, ODM’s head of communications Phil Etale expressed his disappointment with the incident but dissociated his party from the same.
“The incident involving Peter Ole Osono and a group of journalists is not in any way an ODM affair. The official acted in his own capacity as a businessman/owner of the said piece of land and a resident of Nakuru and not on behalf of the party,” said Etale.
Etale added that the Orange party has no land to protect in Nakuru or anywhere in the country.
“I therefore call on the relevant government agencies to deal with the matter as that involving an individual and not a party affair,” said Etale.
Nakuru ODM Chairman Peter Ole Osono fired gunshots to county journalists covering a protest at Oljorai Farm in Elementaita, Gilgil Sub County.
A week ago, National Lands Commission (NLC) chairman Muhammad Swazuri ordered Osono to open an access road on the controversial farm.
The residents had submitted their petition through the local Member of County Assembly Jane Simita that Osono had blocked a road leading to the farm.
