The Orange Democratic Movement Party has come out to explain conditions under which governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya will be able to vie for the presidency instead of Raila Odinga.
According to Party chairman John Mbadi, the duo must seek approval from members first.
Mbadi said the two deputy party leaders and any other member are free to express their desire to fly the party’s flag.
He has maintained that all the interested parties shall have to first present their names and voice their aspirations to fellow party members at a delegates conference to seek formal approval.
"Traditionally, it’s the people who elect the party flag bearer. Those with interests cleared at the party level, will seek their nod,'' Mbadi said.
Mbadi said there was need for party members to play a role in selecting their leader and respect each other's rights to have their chance at the top seat.
''As a party, we believe in one another including involving party members in the decision making and deliberation within the party structure,'' the ODM Chairman said.
