A political storm is brewing in the Coast region with politicians aligned to the Orange party openly going against the warnings from the party top organ.

 Led by Kilifi county Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi and vocal Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, they said the region has long been neglected and by supporting the Deputy President William Somoei Ruto in 2022, they are assured of a slice of the national cake. 

They questioned why the ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was not comfortable with Ruto yet he was silent when Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho met Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is also on the presidential campaign mode. 

During the the Iftar dinner and fundraising held in Malindi constituency, host MP Jumwa noted the inability of Raila to change tact was his biggest undoing in every election cycle.

On his part, Duale revealed he has been wooing Jumwa to Ruto's side for in readiness for the 2022 equation. 

The Malindi lawmaker is the first Coast leader to declare unwavering support for the deputy president. But by throwing her weight behind Ruto and openly disobeying the position by her party, she has sent tremors to the Orange house even as the party appears tough in the public. In a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday,June 6 2018, ODM threatened to take disciplinary action against any member who engages in premature 2022 campaigns.
