The race for Kisumu County Speaker position has attracted six candidates as lobbying intensifies ahead of the elections to be held on Wednesday 6th September 2017.
Incumbent Speaker Anne Adul is facing stiff competition from former TNA Secretary General George Onyango Oloo who lost his bid for Kisumu Central Parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.
Others who have handed in their applications include former National Assembly Senior Deputy Clerk Owino Omollo who also ran for Kisumu gubernatorial seat in the August general elections, advocates Kenneth Amondi, Jared Owino and Cynthia Aluoch Osiro.
Onyango Oloo who is being fronted by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is the favorite since majority of Members of the County Assembly are from the party.
Kenneth Amondi an advocate of the High Court vied for the seat in 2013 and lost to Anne Adul.
Kisumu County Assembly Clerk Ben Opiyo confirmed that the six applicants had submitted their applications within the deadline of 48 hours before the Election Day.
Opiyo said the second county assembly would reconvene on Wednesday 6th September for swearing in and election of the Speaker.
