The governor of Kakamega, Wycliffe Oparanya, has been on the receiving end of heavy criticism from detractors in NASA who are angry at him for not showing up during opposition protests.

Particularly angry at him is former Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale with whom he has been locked in a long-running battle.

The Kakamega governor yesterday took time to address his NASA critics regarding his absence in opposition protests in Nairobi.

''Khalwale is asking why I did not participate in protests in Nairobi. I have told him to leave me alone. Do you think a governor, a leader of my stature would participate in protests and get tear gassed? What will the people of Kakamega think when they see me doing that on TV? They would lose confidence in my leadership.'' A seething Oparanya said in Kakamega.

Governor Oparanya has received a lot of backlash for associating with Jubilee with many calling him a sell-out.

He attended Gakuru's funeral even though ODM party leader Raila Odinga boycotted the ceremony.
