A section of Nyamira residents have laughed off purchasing of Sh29 million fire engine that arrived from Germany early this week.

At Kisumu, Governor John Nyagarama insisted the engine will enable handle flood and fire emergencies adding that he was keen to supply other smaller engines to all sub counties.

"We are proud of this milestone and this is just the beginning of a financial year. We shall procure three more smaller ones.

"The purpose of this truck is to improve our emergency to disaster. This is a modern machine," he said.

But at Borabu Watchtower group, a number of locals seemed dissatisfied with the new development in the county.

"As usual that was just another scandal. I have never seen a fire engine going at such a cost," said Sam Omosa.

Evans Nyayiemi added: "A normal engine goes at around Sh15 million. It is funny that they are still hoodwinking us."

From next week, the county government shall roll out training on fire fighting in a venue yet to be communicated.
