Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has maintained that he was re-elected in a free and fair manner.

The county boss has now asked the High Court to drop the election petition filed by former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi seeking the nullification of the county’s gubernatorial results. According to Kingi, the case filed against him not only lacks merit, but is also defective. In a sworn affidavit filed by his lawyer Dennis Mosota, the governor said he has no case to answer because of the omission of the date of declaration of the polls. The county boss also told the court the total number of votes cast during the August polls had not been included in the petition. “The petition does not show the number of votes cast in favour of each of the candidates who participated in the questioned election, the total votes cast in the election is also missing,” said Kingi, as quoted by the Nation. This comes after Justice Weldon Korir on Friday asked William Kahindi, a Jubilee supporter who is also challenging Kingi’s win and Kambi to have their cases enjoined. The two want Kingi’s re-election nullified, citing massive illegalities and irregularities. The case will be heard on November 6 to 12, 2017.
