Gumbo has stated that there’s no democracy whatsoever in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday, Gumbo said despite being touted as a democratic party, the political outfits’ leadership has nothing to show in terms of propagating democracy.

He said that many leaders have in the past decided to leave ODM due to what he termed as undemocratic space in the party, which is very popular in the Nyanza region.

He said those who left the party and decided to vie for political seats in other parties or as independent candidates have been called names by ODM leaders who claim to be democratic.

“We must as a people move to the next level where we can secure votes using civility. If I choose not to side with you, it does not make me evil. After all, why did we fight for multiparty?” he posed.

“What is so wrong if I decide that I am not getting accommodation here let me go elsewhere?” he added.

Gumbo vied for the gubernatorial seat in Saya County as an independent candidate but lost to governor Cornel Amoth Rasanga of ODM.

The former MP decamped from ODM after losing to Rasanga during the party nominations.
