Three ODM legislators from Homa Bay County have maintained calls for a fresh voter registration exercise ahead of next year’s elections.
Speaking separately in public functions, area senator Moses Kajwang’, Women rep Gladys Wanga and Suba MP John Mbadi vowed they are not ready to accept the voters register prepared by the current IEBC commissioners to be used in conducting the elections.
Mbadi claimed that the current voters list had anomalies hence they cannot trust it to be used for a credible elections outcome. The ODM national chairman also demanded that the new IEBC commissioners be selected through the political parties representation to have credibility and trust in them overseeing next polls.
“We are cannot afford to accept any flawed elections again, we need a team that will ensure there is a level playground in the electoral process,” he said.
He argued that involving political parties in picking the new electoral commissioners would ensure confidence concerning the independence of the team is restored.
Kajwang’ said there must be a fresh voter register ahead of the elections, alleging that Jubilee already had two million extra votes in the current voter list.
“We would want to see a free, fair and transparent election but we have learnt that the current register has been doctored to favour certain parties ahead of the elections. We must just have afresh voter registration conducted,” Kajwang’ said.
Wanga argued that conducting fresh voter registration and using the new voters register will make Kenyans have faith in the whole electoral process.
“The new IEBC team must register voters afresh for us to be assured of credibility in the manner the elections will be done,” said Wanga.
