The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has warned Jubilee leaders against tying the March 9 handshake between their party leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta to the succession politics.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said the opposition outfit was backing the government to fulfill its mandate but cautioned that business would not be as usual if some politicians keep on dragging Raila's name to the next election.

"For now, we are in full support of the Big Four. However, we are aware of an attempt by some Jubilee leaders to add a Big Five- the 2022 politics- and they will be in for a rude shock because we will not allow it," he said.

This was in apparent reference to Deputy President William Ruto and his lieutenants who have repeatedly accused the ODM leader of planning to sabotage the DP's 2022 presidential bid by pushing for a referendum after the handshake.

"He (Raila) is trying to be cozy with the President but at the same time is hostile to the DP. His is a perfect example of divisive politics," Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen said recently.

Junet, who is the ODM Director of Elections, said despite the sustained onslaught of Raila by the DP allies, the unity deal was still intact.

"As far as we are concerned, the handshake is firmly in place," he said on Tuesday while speaking at the Parliament Buildings.
