The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has confirmed that the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) settled on a Raila Odinga – Kalonzo Musyoka line up for NASA.
In a press statement signed by party Secretary General Agnes Zani, ODM described Amani National Congress Secretary General Godfrey Osotsi’s assertion that no conclusions had been made by the NCC as “skewed”.
“Clarification has to be made, that the report was valid and existent. NCC had been mandated to come up with that report and we did. That report leaked out in the form that the media presented. A few aspects and figures were not those of the committee but the line-up presented had been agreed on in the committee,” Zani said the statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday.
She added, “The sentiments by ANC SG Mr. Godfrey Osotsi are skewed. The assertion that there is no report is not accurate.”
Last week, a report by the NASA Committee leaked to the media.
The NCC recommended that ODM leader be NASA’s flag bearer and Wiper’s Kalonzo his running mate.
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi was proposed to be the Chief Minister, a position to be created if the opposition clinches power.
Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula was recommended to be the Speaker of the National Assembly or the Leader of Majority.
On Monday, ANC delegates threatened to walk out of NASA if their party leader, Mudavadi, is not named the opposition's flag bearer.
"We are tired of supporting other people and communities. It is our time to contest for the top seat," said Martin Waliaula, ANC branch secretary for Bungoma County.
On Sunday, the four NASA principals retreated at the South Coast, in what was reported as a meeting to conclude on who will take on Jubilee’s President Uhuru Kenyatta come August 8.
