The first term PDP lawmaker was arrested on Saturday and spent the night at Central Police Station before being transferred to Kisii on Sunday.

Celebrated lawyer and Nyamira senator Okong'o Mogeni accused the government of impunity, insisting that the rights of Kenyans were being abused arbitrarily.

"This is impunity of the highest pedigree. When you arrest something, you should give lawyers  access to him or her. What they are doing to him is absolute injustice," he said.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko added: "As an MP, police should have granted him bail. They are instead being used by merchants of impunity to intimidate us."

According to Kisii Police Commander Abdi Hassan, Obiri will be charged on Monday at Ogembo and Kisii High Court for causing 'bodily harm and assault'

The MP has been pushing for deputy president William Ruto's political future in a region that has traditionally voted for Raila Odinga.
