Plans to form a single political party aiming at uniting the Gusii people has yet again suffered a major blow following rejection by top leaders.
On Sunday, a dozen of leaders from Gusii had convened in Naivasha where formation of a new party was widely discussed.
Conspicuously, Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii), both serving their second terms had snubbed the event.
Former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire is now leading a faction that opposes formation of a new party, insisting that the motive is not yet know.
"It is about democracy and peace. We are united at the same time people should be allowed to chose from a variety of parties," he said.
Ex-North Mugirango MP Charles Geni added: "We don't need a community party to succeed. Let us allow people to chose independently."
It is widely believed that Deputy President William Ruto is pushing for a united Gusii community for his benefit in 2022 polls.
