The Orange Democratic Movement has dismissed claims that it rigged Nyacheki ward by-elections in which Naphtali Onkoba emerged top with 2216 votes ahead of Jubilee Party candidate Maxwell Magoma who garnered 1173 votes.
The Jubilee Party through Albert Nyaundi dismissed the results on Thursday and vowed to move to court over what he termed as ‘voter bribery’ by ODM wing.
However, Senator Janet Ong’era has dismissed the claims as ‘political theatrics’ and challenged the Jubilee Party to concede defeat.
“It’s really funny that they are accusing us of rigging yet we even saw senior Jubilee politicians dishing money and even getting hostility from Nyacheki people who had said no to bribery,” she said.
“Jubilee should concede defeat and stop these political theatrics. We are ready to face them in court if need be but they should know that we are aware of their attempted rigging which gets resistance. Its ODM which should accuse them of rigging,” she said.
The Nyacheki campaigns had turned out to be a contest between Governor James Ongwae(ODM) and Senator Chris Obure(Jubilee Party) with the two expected to run against each other in 2017.
