Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has defended national assembly majority leader Aden Duale following his weekend remarks against council of governors’ chairman Isaac Ruto at a Narok meeting. Speaking on Friday in Nakuru while presenting Women Enterprise fund cheques to various women groups in his constituency, the rebel ODM MP said Duale was misunderstood.
“Duale was understood in the wrong context,” Arama said.
“He only meant to caution governors who have defied summons from the senate that they have an obligation to be accountable to the people.”
Arama said members of the public expect value for the taxes they pay and this can only be achieved by initiating meaningful development in their areas. The MP added that despite being elected on an ODM ticket, he has an obligation to ensure that his constituents benefit from the government of the day and that he shall not relent in supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
While criticising the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) for pushing for a referendum to make constitutional changes, Arama said the campaign is intended to derail the government’s development agenda.
“Most of the Cord coalition members are power-hungry individuals who are determined to destabilise the Jubilee government,” Arama claimed.
For the second time, the MP dared the ODM leadership to expel him from the party, saying that he was not afraid of seeking fresh mandate from the people.
