Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has hailed Kilifi County over its stunning performance in the fight against corruption despite protests by a section of residents who want Governor Amason Kingi quit office.
Kaluma said Kingi is a whistleblower and had acted on his county officials accused of engaging in the Sh51 million scandal, a move the MP asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to emulate.
"Kingi really did well, when he got the information, he suspended the officers whose passwords were said to have been used during the transactions," Kaluma said during Citizen TV's Power Breakfast show on Friday.
The lawmaker asked Jubilee politicians to stop diverting the corruption debate that has taken a toll on the national government by politicising the loss of money in Kilifi County.
He said if the EACC investigations find Governor Kingi culpable, they should tell the public. "If the EACC investigations find out that it is Kingi who stole the money, let them tell us, let us not politicize the whole situation," he said.
"Telling Kingi to step aside yet he has asked the EACC and CID to probe the theft of funds, I think that is wrong," he added.
