The Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir was involved in the accident at Nyamache in Bobasi sub-county in Kisii while driving from a private function on Friday evening.

The MP's car collided with an incoming boda-boda operator who was carrying two passengers.

The police revealed that Mr Shabir rushed the three to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital but the boda-boda rider Alex Trina died.

However, the lawmaker faulted the boda-boda rider.

"The motorcyclist was driving very fast and before we could know he had hit my car," said Shabir.

Kisii county police commandant Agnes Mudamba said that blame games should not ensue since they are still conducting investigations to ascertain the cause of the accident.

“It is true that the car belongs to the MP. For now, there is no need of blaming each other until we are through with the investigations,” she said.
