North Mugirango MP Charles Geni has termed a move by Jubile government to have exchequer fund party primaries as ‘scandalous and prosecutable’.
National Assembly Majority leader Adan Duale recently insisted that Jubilee Party nominations will be funded by taxpayers, a move which Geni has vehemently opposed.
Speaking to the reporter on Friday, the ODM threated to call for mass demonstrations to curb the government from using public funds ‘carelessly’.
‘Party nominations should purely internal and should not be used as an avenue to squander taxpayers’ money. The move by Jubilee is scandalous and prosecutable,” he said.
“If they cannot drop their plans, I will mobilise Kenyans to protest. Jubilee should desist from using taxpayers’ money carelessly when we have several stalled projects across the nation,” he added.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party is yet to give its official stand on the matter that could see exchequer release over Sh4 billion for party primaries ahead of 2017 elections.
