Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament Timothy Bosire rubbished Kirinyaga governorship aspirant Ann Waiguru’s claims of being asked to pay a sh 10m bribe as false and shameless.
His comments came in the wake of Ms Waiguru’s claims during a local television talk show where she claimed that members of the parliamentary accounts committee had asked her for Sh 10 m to clear her from allegations of graft in the NYS scandal.
Speaking at Manga IEBC offices when he was cleared by the commission to vie for the Kitutu Masaba seat, the MP termed Ms Waiguru’s claims shameless and motivated by malice.
“I was part of the team that investigated her as the PAC and formed the opinion that she should have led to her prosecution in a court of law. The claims she made are not only false, malicious and intended to cause damage to members of the PAC, but are also shameless and without merit,” said Mr Bosire.
He questioned the validity of her bribery claims, saying she should have named the specific people that asked for the alleged bribe instead of collectively accusing the committee.
“She cannot taint our characters collectively for the so-called bribe demand without naming the specific individuals who asked for it. Her comments, which I term as an afterthought, are shameless and calculated to cast doubt on the committee’s recommendation that she be held accountable for the loss of NYS funds,” he said.
Mr Bosire said the aspirant did not voice her objections to the alleged bribe demand during the PAC hearings which were televised.
“I am surprised that she has chosen to visit for all this time to make the allegations when she could have done it during our committee deliberations, which were made public. What could she have been waiting for all this time?” he wondered.
Mr Bosire told off Ms Waiguru for the remarks, saying she made them to ensure her political survival.
“Her remarks are completely self-serving and merely calculated to ensure her political survival, said Mr Bosire.
The legislator challenged Ms Waiguru to come clean on the source of her wealth by making a public declaration on it, saying that would be the best way for her to prove her innocence in the saga.
“If she is truly innocent, let her let her publicly declare her wealth and put any lingering doubts on her integrity to rest,” Mr Bosire told the Nation.
