Karachuonyo MP James Rege will not be defending his seat in the August polls.

This is after he shelved his ambitions after holding the post for two terms.

Rege, who defected from ODM party last year, announced he would instead join president Uhuru Kenyatta’s campaign team to gear up support for his re-election.

“I have sacrificed my political ambitions to ensure that president Kenyatta retains his seat, said Rege.

He had earlier indicated that he would be running as an independent candidate after speculations that no party had submitted his name to IEBC for gazettement.

The legislator said he needed enough time to enable him drum up support for him and that’s why he had to drop the parliamentary bid.

“I am not going to defend my seat or contest any seat in Homa Bay because I need ample time to campaign for Uhuru,” the Standard quoted him.

He further expressed confidence that Kenyatta would win in the August 8 polls.

He was appointed by Jubilee leadership to head the campaign team in the Nyanza and Western counties.
