Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has once again be critised for not doing much to improve the state of public schools in the county. This is after some photos shared by Daisy Amdany@daisyjerop emerged on social media showing the horrible state of Tom Mboya Primary School in Dandora.
In the photographs, the school is shown having sewerage tanks overflowing with its effluents seen flowing like a river, walls almost caving in, toilets filled with nowhere to step and classrooms looking like some hardware store in the city.
But to the surprise of everyone on Twitter, Mp Kibra, Ken Okoth came to the rescue governor Sonko saying that education was not a devolved function and thus the National Government should be the one to be bashed.
Okoth who hit the headlines recently after unveiling a brand new modern school in his Kibra constituency responded to the complaints raised by Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) saying that they needed to be reasonable in bashing the Governor as they had directed their anger to the wrong recipient.
"It is not the job of the Governor. It is the job of the Ministry of Education. Let's be reasonable", he twitted.
The MP further said the Ministry of Education under the tutelage of Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed was the one to take responsibility for the poor conditions at the public school as citizens pay taxes and that parliament allocates funds to the ministry to provide for the service.
"Citizens pay taxes and parliament gives a budget to the Ministry of Education. It is the responsibility of the Ministry", he said.
Under the new regulations, County governments are only responsible for the development of Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDEs).
