An ODM Member of Parliament has announced that he will quit politics in 2017 because the career pays less.
Tarbaj lawmaker Mohamed Elmi said that he will quit active politics and look for another source of income because he has not earned much from his current job.
Elmi also stated that he was also calling it a day in order to pass the mantle to young and vibrant people who will introduce fresh ideas in the political system.
“I want to show everybody there is life after politics. I believe it is the right time for me to exit the stage and pass the mantle to the young, vibrant and energetic individuals who will pick up from where I have left,” Elmi is quoted by the-star.
He made the announcement on Tuesday during a funds drive at Wajir Girls Secondary School.
Elmi's revelation of earning less are contrary to what majority of the people believe when it comes to earnings by politicians.
It is believed that elected politicians are among the highest paid people in the country.
