Two Siaya County MPs have called for a lifestyle audit on area Governor Cornel Rasanga.
Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem) and Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda) want the EACC to grill the ODM governor over alleged misappropriation of public funds.
The legislators claim Rasanga’s lifestyle has changes to a more luxurious one since he assumed office in 2013.
They attributed the luxurious lifestyle to misuse of development funds.
“Just like in National Government, corruption is worse in county level. Anybody telling us to vote back Governor Rasanga must explain to us how this man who had nothing four years ago, today boasts of hundreds of millions of shillings and lives in a palatial home, where did he get the money from?” said Gumbo, as quoted by Citizen digital.
Gumbo is the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Parliament’s watchdog committee.
Midiwo on his part claimed the Governor had bought palatial homes in the USA, Kisumu and Siaya.
“When we talk about the menace of corruption in the National Government, we will not keep quiet on Siaya County corruption,” said Midiwo.
Rasanga, however, rubbished the allegations levelled against him.
He accused the MPs of witch hunt, maintaining that his lifestyle had not changed.
“This is a witch-hunt by the MPs because they wanted to benefit from County public funds and I declined. If a lifestyle audit is conducted, then all of the elected leaders in Siaya should be investigated too,” he said.
