Four ODM legislators have insisted for the free and fair nominations in their election primaries.
The MPs have also shown interest in contacting IEBC to conduct the nominations which are scheduled for February.
Led by Nyando MP Fred Outa, Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), George Oner (Rangwe) and Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga, the leaders have all said that that the nominations would be best conducted by IEBC for fair selection of candidates.
This comes a few days after the president passed the party hopping bill, which prohibited party member from moving to other parties 21 days before their party nominations.
The leaders said that the forthcoming nominations can possibly be rigged and requested for a neutral body to carry it out.
“The party hopping bill will make the leaders to do everything possible to get the nomination certificates. The elections would therefore be best conducted by a body that does not take sides,” said Wandayi.
Speaking during a fundraiser at Nyalieng’a Christian Revolution Fellowship Center Church in Rangwe constituency in Homabay County, the legislators also said that the move by current governors and senators on free party nomination is uncalled for.
Wanga expressed concern that the move to ask for certificates from their party leader Raila Odinga would deny voters their rights.
“The western counties are generally ODM strong hold regions. Most voters would elect candidates from the party and not any other party. It would therefore be against their wish to elect someone they did not want just because of a certificate,” said Wanga.
In his part, Nyando MP asked voters to choose their leaders wisely citing that the current governors have not worked according to the expectation of most Kenyans.
