Kitutu Masaba Mp Timothy Bosire has yet again insisted that he will not interfere with the process of choosing a flag bearer for the Orange Democratic Movement in the gubernatorial race.
This statement comes after a section of party members allied to incumbent Governor John Nyagarama recently claimed that the outspoken legislator who also doubles as the party’s national treasurer had a preferred candidate and also citing animosity between him and Nyagarama.
But on Monday, Bosire through a phone interview said the party’s election board would be responsible for the issuance of certificates in 2017 elections ruling out his interference.
“ODM has a structured system on how to give party nominations and it’s done through a competitive exercise. The elections board is in charge of it and as a member of the secretariat, I have no say on that,” he said.
“I have always protected democracy and whoever the Nyamira people will choose as their flag bearer, I am ready to support that person because this is all about people," said Bosire.
"I do not have a preferred candidate because I do not issue certificates. I have answered that question severally,” he said.
He has warned party ticket aspirants against ‘trivialising’ the matter and urged them to seek the mandate from people directly instead of planning to use unscrupulous means.
“I want to remind aspirants that the will of the people will carry the day. It’s really bad to trivialise such an issue because we have a plan of ensuring the nominations are free and fair. We will only go for people who enjoy support from the ground,” he added.
John Nyagarama, Charles Mochama and now ODM Nyamira county chairman James Gesami are expected to tussle for the ticket.
Bosire fell out with Nyagarama and is believed to be secretly backing businessman Charles Mochama.
