The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has mourned the death of Zimbabwe opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
The Movement for Democratic Change party leader died on Wednesday in South Africa where he had gone for treatment following colon cancer, which he has been battling for a while.
Tsvangirai who was a strong ally of Kenya's opposition and ODM party leader Raila Odinga was a critical opposition leader in Zimbabwe during the rule of Robert Mugabe.
In 2013, he attended ODM Delegates Conference that saw Odinga elected the party leader.
"We join the world in paying tribute to a great man, a fighter for Democracy & Social Justice. A man who lived his political life fighting for the rights of the people of Zimbabwe & Africa. Rt. Hon. Morgan Tsvangirai, your struggle will not go in vain. Your Legacy shall live on," the ODM party tweeted shortly after news of his death went viral.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) which is a wing of the National Super Alliance (NASA) which ODM is an affiliate party, also mourned Morgan.
"In Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe has lost a true luminary and People's guard. He stood firm for democracy but never lived to enjoy its fruits. Even so, he departs after Mugabe's exit. Our condolences to his wife, family & the great people of Zimbabwe. Our prayers are with you," tweeted NRM.
