The alleged rift between Kisii Governor James Ongwae and area Senator Chris Obure is a creation of people, a top ODM official has revealed.

This comes barely two days after Mr Obure and nominated Senator Janet Ong’era stormed out of a meeting on Friday during ODM leaders meeting, snubbing interview with local journalists.

The duo had publicly ignored to address the parties agenda during a funeral ceremony of the mother to embattled Kenya businessman Don Bosco Gichana who is held up in Tanzania despite Mr Ongwae and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire seizing the occasion to call for IEBC reforms.

But Kisii County ODM Youth league chairman Erick Janganya has defended the party’s county top leadership saying the alleged rift was ‘imagery’.

“I am really disappointed with the kind of gossip spreading about the relationship of Ongwae and Obure. The two are working well and no rivalry between them as it is being reported,” said Janganya.

“It’s a creation of people perhaps who want the two to collide. I want to assure the public that the rift is an imagery and should be dismissed as a misrepresentation of facts,” he added.

Janganya said Obure and Ong’era had to leave early from the meeting to attend to other emergencies and that they could not have given an interview because they had no jurisdiction according to ODM constitution.

“They had other issues to conduct and leaving early doesn’t justify the rumor. Ongwae is the party’s secretary hence the official spokesperson,” he added.

Mr Obure is reportedly scheming to run against Ongwae in the gubernatorial race while Ong’era is tipped to challenge Women Representative Mary Otara despite all having roots in ODM.
