A special sitting by the ODM National Governing Council (NGC) upheld its earlier decision to expel from the party, ten members who defected to Jubilee and other rival political outfits.
In making the decision, NGC considered the appellants’ case through their Lawyer Kioko Kilukumi and recalled its earlier decision reached at on the October 31, 2016 at the Bomas of Kenya.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale said party delegates went through the appeal by the affected members and concluded that they had not raised any cogent reasons and sufficient grounds that would see NGC pardon them.
The party Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen presented the report of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Party which is chaired by the Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi to the NGC, expelling the ten members from the party.
The expelled members include: Kwale governor Salim Mvurya; Kwale County MP Zainab Chidzuga; Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi; Mathare MP Stephen Kariuki; Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura and Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama.
Others include: Sirisia MP Rtd Major John Waluke; Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba; Masoud Mwahima MP for Likoni Constituency; and Samwel Nyangwara Nairobi's Viwandani ward MCA.
According to Etale, the decision to expel the ten defectors was made unanimously in a special sitting of the NGC presided over by the Deputy Party Leader Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, and immediately communicated in writing to the Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u for action.
ODM said Ndung’u is expected to communicate in writing to the Speaker of the National Assembly as well as Speakers of the Counties, where the affected Governor and Deputy Governor were elected, to serve for further action.
The decison was reached Monday, at Orange House.
