Orange Democratic Movement party has sealed loopholes that saw people acquiring nominations certificates ahead of general elections in previous elections, senior party officials have revealed.

Among the strategies that have been set to oversee transparency in nominations is carrying out the exercise per county unlike in the past when it was carried out in the entire country also, hiring independent observers who will report to the secretariat.

The officials, led by secretary general Ababu Namwamba, were addressing residents of Nyakorere market in South Mugirango on Sunday when popularising the party.

“We have learnt from our mistakes and we will see no more skewed nominations and subsequent defections that marred the party during nominations. We are going to ensure that the exercise is done per county so that we are able to manage a small scope rather than entire country,” Namwamba said.

ODM Kisii County Youth League chair Erick Janganya on his part said the youth team had proposed hiring of independent observers who would give a detailed report to the secretariat for review before the nomination certificates were issued.

“I am happy that secretary general (Namwamba) fronted our suggestion that we have independent observers. The observers will by extent minimise disputes which emerge after nominations since it will enable us to know what transpires during the polls,” he said.

Namwamba also urged those who will lose on a fair ground to remain intact in the party to show his loyalty by supporting the winner.

“In nominations we always have a winner and a loser. If you lose fairly, it’s not proper to hop from the party. We should instead respect the outcome and support the winner to strengthen our party,” he said.
