Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir has admitted that the Orange Democratic Movement party only submitted evidence in the case against former Commissioner of Police Hussein Ali who was later acquitted by the International Criminal Court.

Shakeel said the evidence was based on those who were killed by police in Kisumu in the post election violence.

He said they submitted the names, photographs and post mortem results to the Waki Commission noting that Ali was to take responsibility of the killings.

“Ali was to take responsibility for the Luos who were killed in Kisumu. We submitted the evidence to the Waki Commission but later Ali was acquitted,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday during the celebration to mark Mashujaa Day, Shakeel said ODM did not fix anybody else but was only interested to seek justice for the 87 Kisumu residents who were shot dead by the police.

The MP called for an end to ICC discussions to let the country move forward.

“The country had healed and we had started the process of moving forward, these ICC talks by politicians will only open up the can of worms and that will tear the country apart,” he said.

Shakeel said the court should be given time to carry out its mandate without pushing the country to animosity through politics.

He said the country does not wish to witness again what transpired in the post election chaos and told politicians to desist from talking about ICC before cases facing Deputy President William Ruto and former radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang are fully heard and determined.
