Thousands of Kenyans living abroad may after all not participate in the much anticipated 2017 elections.

This is after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) objected to the move, claiming that the government was engaging in fraudulent registration activities of people living overseas.

Director of elections Junet Mohammed accused the government of issuing fraudulent Identity Cards and passports to illegal immigrants in US and other parts of the world, in a scheme aimed at rigging polls.

“We are not going to allow those living abroad to vote because the government is using them to rig votes,” reports the Daily Nation.

“No one knows the numbers involved yet fraudulent registration of potential voters by government mercenaries is ongoing in various parts of the world,” said Mr. Mohammed, who is also the Suna East MP.

The latest onslaught by the opposition party on lections may yet again ignite a fierce debate from either side of political divide given the ongoing electoral reforms.
