A Nairobi-based Orange Democratic Movement politician has been released on bond after being arrested for allegedly possessing bhang.

Chapia Bukachi who had envisioned to vie for the Nairobi senatorial race on an ODM ticket but was defeated during the party primaries by Edwin Sifuna was on Thursday arraigned at the Kibera Law Court but denied the bhang possession charges.

Bukachi was arrested on January 4 after being flagged down by police officers in Lavington and taken to the Kileleshwa police station where police said they found two roles of bhang in his car after a search.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani and released on Sh100,000 bond.Bukachi, however, accused the police of 'planting' the bhang in his car saying there is a possibility the cops are being used by his political opponent to silence him.

His car is still detained at the police station pending more investigations.
