Lamu politician Rishad Amana has exuded confidence that he will capture the Lamu West Parliamentary seat after the court ordered a vote recount. The vocal politician has already set his campaign machinery in motion, in the event that the court orders for a by-election. Amana had moved to court to contest the win of Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Stanley Muthama, citing massive illegalities and irregularities. He told the court that Muthama’s win in the August General election did not reflect the will of the people of Lamu West.Muthama won by 140 votes after garnering 11,090 votes against Amana’s 10,950 votes. This comes after Justice Eldon Korir of the Malindi High Court ordered for a vote recount in the constituency in order to validate the winner of the last general election, following a petition filed by Amana, an ally of NASA leader Raila Odinga. According to sources quoted by The Star, the politician has already contacted some of his key strategists as he seeks to take over the constituency following the ruling which he termed as a win for the voters of Lamu West.“Immediately the court ordered a recount, he contacted us and told us to start work. He said should the court order a by-election, we should be ready,” said one of Amana’s aides“He is confident justice will prevail and he will be declared the winner directly by the court,” added the source, as quoted by the daily.
