The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party maintains nomination of one Irene Nyakerario to Nyamira County Assembly was done within the law.

Last week, the county assembly adjourned following a tussle between Ms Nyakerario and Damaris Mouni, with the latter insisting that she was legitimately nominated.

"The ODM party should come forth and address this matter. We cannot run debates amid the controversy," said speaker Moffat Teya.

While Mouni had claimed a nomination slot last September, a corregenda from the Orange party revoked her nomination in favour of Nyakerario, a familiar figure in the party's campaigns.

And with the court demanding swearing in of Ms Nyakerario a fortnight ago, Mouni has since appealed the decision in High Court, forcing the party to reaffirm her decision.

"There is no doubt about the nomination. Irene Nyekerario was the correct nominee and I submit the corregenda to that effect," said party lawyer Tonny Moturi on Nyamira ODM League.

So pressing is the matter that even sources claim it has been brought to the attention of party leader Raila Odinga.

While Nyakerario enjoys support within ODM top stalwarts, Mouni, whose name was allegedly inserted illegally by her son, who used to wok with IEBC, reportedly enjoys support from county leadership.

Until the High Court hears and determines the appeal, Ms Nyakerario will remain a stranger within the assembly premises.
