Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo is the latest politician to declare interest to vie for the country's top seat during the 2022 elections.
Speaking in Voi on Wednesday during a Jubilee rally, Mwazo who ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM party for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side, said his decision to vie for presidency is informed by the need to take his political career to the next level.The Senator said he has what it takes to lead the nation. "I served as Voi MP for five years and currently I am a Senator. I will be the second Governor of this county come August 9 and aim for the Presidency in 2022," said Mwazo, as quoted by the Nation.Mwazo also took the opportunity to drum up support for President Uhuru.He said people of the region have shifted to rally behind the President because he is a genuine leader who cares about the welfare of all Kenyans.“In religion we are taught that faith without action is dead. People have moved to where there is faith with action,” said Mr Mwazo.Already, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has declared his intention to run for the seat in 2022.Others who have hinted at running for presidency include Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, his Meru counterpart Peter Munya, Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
