Former Karachuonyo MP James Rege has finally made a comeback in public life after landing a top government position in President Uhuru Kenyatta's latest appointments.
A draft gazette notice reported by the Nation, indicates that the former lawmaker is earmarked for appointment as new board chair for the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.
The appointment will come as a major relief to Rege, who took an unprecedented decision to sacrifice his own political career, and campaign for the Jubilee party Presidential candidate during the 2017 general election.
His move earned him the wrath of his constituents who accused him of betrayal by not supporting the region's most preferred candidate Raila Odinga of ODM and the NASA coalition.
Rege, a two-time Karachuonyo MP, was the face of Jubilee Party in Nyanza and after Uhuru defeated Raila, he was seen as favourite to make it to the cabinet or at least become a Principal Secretary.
However, it was not to be. He was not even considered for the newly-created Chief Administrative Secretary positions. But now, something is set to come his way.
Once the appointment is confirmed, the veteran politician will become the second election loser from Nyanza to make it to the government.
Former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura, his fellow ODM rebel, was appointed Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of East African Affairs.
