The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will give direct nominations to some candidates vying for various positions in the forthcoming August 8 general elections.
The party Director of Communications Phillip Etale, revealed that Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga are some of the aspirants that will get direct tickets to defend their seats.
Etale confirmed the two will receive direct nomination certificates because they are unopposed candidates within ODM for the August polls.
“There are some aspirants who do not have opponents. Such aspirants will not be subjected to nominations hence qualifying for automatic nomination to vie for the seats applied for,” said Etale in a statement.
ODM will also give direct nominations to aspirants in areas where the party has equal or less support compared to other parties.
A week ago, during a consultative meeting between all Coast ODM aspirants, Party Leader Raila Odinga assured the hopefuls that the party will hold free and fair nominations.
"I wish to assure all those interested in our party ticket that there are no sacred cows. Everybody, including myself, shall be subjected to a democratic process,'' said Raila in a function held in Mombasa.
